Better than Eastenders !

So you thought that the storyline of long lost loves, complicated relationships, and holiday romances in the recent Didim Thespian’s play ‘Someone Like You’ was riveting ?  Well it was nothing like real life in Didim I can tell you !

The last few days has seen a deluge of emotion-filled posts on Facebook, both personal and group pages, fuelling raging debate about all sorts of things.  Debate flared about the purpose and popularity of local english language newspapers, as well as the right to open and honest discussion in public forums without censorship from (un)biased page administrators.

Didim is not perfect, people are only human, and there will be disagreements.  But surely as adults we can all try to support the local community instead of continually knocking it (and yes I have also had my moments of moaning and groaning).  Let’s have grown up discussion, no personal abuse, and open sharing of our experiences, good and bad, so that we can all move forward and make Didim a great place to live with and integrate with our Turkish hosts.

A new page on Facebook, Altinkum & Akbuk – Help & Reviews, has been set up with it’s stated intention - ”This is a community where we can ask questions, help each other, review things, share hidden treasures and things to do in the local area. An opinion is allowed, please be courteous of each other and no hearsay”.  Let’s use it wisely !

About Andrew Sings.....

My name is Andrew Tait. I am originally from Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, and have now lived in Turkey for four years. Initially I lived on the beautiful Aegean coast of South West Turkey, and in 2012 I moved to the Fethiye area on the Mediterranean coast. Formerly a communications professional in the global financial services industry, I had always had a huge desire to be a singer and share my enjoyment of music with other people. So much so that I spent many an evening in karaoke bars crooning my tunes whilst enjoying a fine ale or two! I even went for an audition (many years ago now) for a part in a West End musical - sadly without success. In the early part of 2010 I was asked by two special friends if I would like to do a 'show' at their bar in Altinkum, Didim. Soon I was feeling the stress of learning 30 new songs in a four week period for a my very first ever public performance as a solo professional vocalist. Since that first performance things have just steam-rollered, to the point in early 2012 I was doing five or six gigs regularly every week in Didim and Akbuk. I perform many classic and contemporary pop songs from across six decades. My favourite genre for singing is Swing and I frequently perform my various theme/tribute nights, including a Rat Pack Show. I currently have over 200 songs in my repertoire, and I absolutely love my work as a singer.
