Performing under the name ‘Andrew sings…..’ we are two British guys who love music and love to share that passion with others and see people enjoying life through music. Andrew sings….. is not merely a vocalist act, we provide a full and professional performance that gets to the heart of people’s emotions. Wherever we perform our very personable style soon wins the hearts of our audiences and our music soon gets audiences to their feet dancing. Through our musical performances we can stimulate vivid memories in people, we can have an audience on their feet in rapturous applause, or we can have them in tears at the pure emotion of a beautiful song !!
My name is Andrew Tait and I am the vocalist. Originally from Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, I love nothing better than a bit of ‘Big Band’ Swing – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Buble etc. However the main influence on my musical preferences, like many other people, are the songs and music I was brought up listening to as a child during the ‘swinging’ 60s and the ‘glam’ 70s. But I have an appreciation of a wide selection of music, and when listening to music I have a particular soft spot for the ‘New Romantics’ of the early 80s such as Spandau Ballet, Human League and ABC, as well as the silky smooth voice of Karen Carpenter.
I was formerly a communications professional in the global financial services industry, but I had always had a huge desire to be a singer and share my enjoyment of music with other people. So much so that I spent many an evening in karaoke bars crooning my tunes whilst enjoying a fine ale or two! I even went for an audition (many years ago now) for a part in a West End musical – sadly without success. My past musical career also included playing both the cornet and the trombone in a brass band, but I haven’t “tootled the flute” for quite a few years now.
The second member of Andrew sings….. is Glen King, from Irthlingborough in Northamptonshire. Glen is the unsung hero who provides the vital technical/sound support for the act. His skill and expertise (as well as a keen ear) ensures the overall delivery of the sound suits each and every venue for the optimal enjoyment of our audiences. A former nurse in the UK, Glen has always had a keen interest in music and spent many a night on the dance floor of some of London’s greatest dance halls in the mid to late 80s. Hence the influence on his musical choices are some of the greatest stars of the 80s, and especially some of the original contemporary R&B coming out of the US during that decade such as Freddie Jackson, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and Teddy Pendergrass as well as the likes of UK popular artists such as Wham! and Culture Club. He loves the pop classics of the 80s and is a huge George Michael and Boy George fan.
Before moving to North Cyprus we lived in Turkey for over 5 years, where we performed in the bars, restaurants and holiday complexes of Altinkum and Akbuk on the Aegean Coast and in the Fethiye area on the Mediterranean Coast.
It all started in 2009 when we were asked by two special friends in the resort of Altinkum, Didim if we would like to do a ‘show’ at their bar – the Cavern. It didn’t take much persuasion, and soon I was feeling the stress of learning 30 new songs in a 4 week period for a my very first ever public performance as a solo professional vocalist. Glen played the role of sound technician and musical adviser, keeping me on track with my song choices and my rehearsals. Following that first performance things just steam-rollered, to the point in early 2012 we were doing 5 or 6 gigs regularly every week in Didim and Akbuk.
Whilst Swing is my favourite genre and a huge influence on my musical preferences, I am a very versatile performer and love singing rock ‘n’ roll from the 50s, classic songs from the 60s, disco, soul and glam rock from the 70s, as well as popular hits from the 80s and 90s.
We also perform many contemporary pop classics from more recent times including Adele, Bruno Mars and Olly Murs. Our variety shows are very popular due to the wide and comprehensive repertoire which allows us to change our performance regularly. Occasionally, Glen has been known to join me on stage during a variety show to perform a duet or two, much to the delight of our audiences. However, he prefers to stay out of the limelight and stick to his sound technician role.
Additionally we perform several popular theme shows including a Rat Pack Show, An Evening With Tom & Engelbert, and a Swinging Sixties Night. Other theme shows that have been added more recently include 70s Nostalgia, An Evening in Hollywood, a James Bond Theme Night, and a Country & Western Night for all those who love a bit of line dancing.
We currently have over 300 songs in our repertoire, and strive to add more on a regular basis in order to keep our act fresh and exciting both for our followers and for ourselves. We absolutely love music, and we love it even more when our audiences enjoy listening to our performances and get to their feet dancing.
As a registered act with All Stars Agency Promotions in North Cyprus, we are also available for private bookings, for example weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties etc. However in summer these are subject to our extremely busy schedule – so early booking is advised.
